Emily Wu Truong is a Taiwanese American mental health advocate for trauma-informed care, harm-reduction, and systemic change to promote emotional resilience and community healing. Emily was born in Arkansas & grew up in Los Angeles County’s San Gabriel Valley since 1988. Over the years, she learned to channel her grief energy into various art forms - singing, writing, dancing, playing the piano, & wearing bright-colored clothing. Although Emily identifies as a suicide-attempt, sexual assault & psychiatric survivor, she also serves as a peer resilience coach inspiring others to think outside of the box and tap into their own inner strength.
Since 2010, Emily has become a widely-recognized national speaker who has been invited to speak for Congresswoman Grace Napolitano, Yale University, TEDx and many more. In 2014, her story of hope was featured by the California Mental Health Movement when it was called “Each Mind Matters.” Currently, as a support group facilitator, Emily creates safe spaces for marginalized neurodivergent individuals with mental health disabilities. Emily serves as a founding board member of the Asian Minds Matter (AMM), a steering committee member for the National Asian American Pacific Islander Empower Network (NAAPIEN), and she serves as the only Asian American board member for the National Coalition for Mental Health Recovery (NCMHR). Among the numerous awards Emily has received, Emily was recently named 2024 AAPI Community Champion by Senator Anthony Portantino & was also honored by The Alliance for Rights & Recovery (formerly NYAPRS) for their Unsung Champions of Advocacy Award.

She is a Registered Navigator, awarded for her community assistance in 2021. Angie is deeply involved with the Chinese American Heritage Foundation, which has been connecting communities since 1860.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, she played a crucial role in assisting over 4,999 families, with support from the Foundation Ours Prayer Mission Center and J & C Investment Services. Educated at Columbia University, New York, Angie continues to be a dedicated advocate for community support and cultural connection.
